The History of Spectrum

Sarah Hills and Emma Young started Spectrum Gymnastics Academy in May 2016 with a mere 17 gymnast from Bright Stars Gym Schools.

BSGS is a company run by Sarah that provides Gymnastics Classes to the Primary Sector in Sevenoaks and Maidstone. SGA began in the hall of Churchill Primary School, Westerham and trained every Thursday evening for 2hrs on Floor, Vault and Beam and Mini Bars.

SGA moved to Valence School, Westerham in September 2016 on a Monday evening and soon the classes expanded to Wednesday's, Thursday's and Saturday mornings.

The club introduced new coaches and invested in their coaching awards. Lots of new equipment was bought and money reinvested back into the club. Soon SGA was full to the brim and a waiting list system was set up.

Within SGA's first year, the club entered x2 competitions at Tolworth's Neon, Floor & vault and over 150 gymnasts entered with fantastic results at each level. This was a huge sucess for Spectrum as the coaches did not have long to prepare children but did an amazing job with such short notice!

They also enetered x6 gymnasts in Pre Grades at NDGA with an AMAZING result of Gold place at Level 5 (in age) and x3 gymnasts in the National Development Plan (Grades) in March 2017 with Distinctions and Commended awarded.

The club went on to develop a satilite club for Pre School children aged 18 months to 4 years 'SPECTRUM STARS' at the Eden Centre, Edenbridge in september 2017. Classes run on Friday mornings for parent & toddler sessions as well as independent classes to ease children into lessons at Valence when they are 5year old/school age.

The latest addition to SGA is the fantastic NEW Academy at Lingfield College Prep School which opened its doors to new members in January 2018! The club has a set of full competition bars which have been rigged into the floor by Gymnova. This venue will encourage new members from Tandridge distict of Surrey.

In September 2019, Spectrum will be leaving Valence and moving all of its current classes to Lingfield College Senior School including switching Lingfield prep classes on Monday evenings over to the new site. Eden Centre Pre School will remain on Friday mornings.

We are SUPER excited and can't wait for you to see the new space we will have, which will include x2 rigged sets of Abars, x1 rigged High Bar, a full 12x12 Floor, another High Beam and new Vaulting Table amongst lots of other goodies for Pre School and our general lessons!

We feel that this move will enable us to offer more space, more time and better equipment which is much needed, especially for our squads that are now training to National levels. General classes will benefit from being able to use all of this brand new equipment too!

We have new coaches joining us in September and current coaches gaining further qualifications to support our general classes up to the highest levels.

Please can you all let Emma know (by email or in club) by the end of the April-July 2019 term if you wish to follow us to the new Lingfield site so that we can save your space. We hope to offer new spaces to our vast waiting lists and also to pupils of Lingfield school. We hope you can all join us in our new venure!
